The animal stays half-seen, on purpose. Not hidden to be found later, hidden so there's still room for the viewer to bring their own imagination into the gap I've left, an invitation as much as anything. But it's also resistance: the animal staying itself, not yet fully caught by whatever I, or the viewer, want to make of it. Reveal too much and there's nothing left to find; reveal too little and it's just obscured, not alive. What I'm after is the animal still holding something back, from me and from whoever's looking.
