The animal claims its environment as its own, whatever room or landscape it's placed in, shared with me but never fully surrendered to. Push too far toward taming it and the claim disappears, it just becomes a pet, settled and owned. Don't push at all and there's no tension left, just an animal existing somewhere. What I'm after is the animal holding its ground in a world it shares with us but keeps for itself, domesticated by my hand, and still, somehow, wild.
